๐ฑ Convert HEIC to JPG
Convert HEIC or HEIF photos (the default format on iPhones) to JPG so they open anywhere.
About Convert HEIC to JPG
This tool converts HEIC and HEIF photos โ the format iPhones have saved photos in by default since iOS 11 โ into standard JPG files that open in any browser, image viewer, or Windows/Android app. You'll typically need it after AirDropping or transferring photos off an iPhone and finding that a website upload form rejects them, or that a colleague on Windows can't open what you sent.
HEIC files store photos using HEVC (H.265) intra-frame compression, a newer and more efficient codec than JPEG's, which is why Apple can fit noticeably better quality into a smaller file. Browsers don't natively decode HEIC, so this tool uses heic2any, a JavaScript library built on a WebAssembly compile of libheif (the reference HEIC decoder), to decode the image entirely on your device, then re-encodes it as a JPG at 90% quality using the Canvas API. Nothing is uploaded โ the WASM decoder runs inside your browser tab.
If a photo was taken as a Live Photo, the HEIC file may be paired with a short video clip; this tool extracts and converts only the still image, not the motion component. HEIC decoding via WebAssembly is more CPU-intensive than a native browser format, so converting a large batch of high-resolution photos can take a few seconds per image and use noticeably more memory than converting between formats browsers decode natively, like PNG or JPG.
Frequently asked questions
Why are my iPhone photos in HEIC format?
HEIC is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11 โ it saves space, but many older apps, websites and Windows programs don't support it directly.
Is any quality lost converting to JPG?
A small amount, as with any format conversion, but at 90% quality the difference is generally not visible.
Will this work with photos from an iPad or other devices?
Yes โ any device that saves photos as HEIC or HEIF, including iPhones, iPads, and some newer Android phones and cameras, produces files this tool can decode.
What happens to the Live Photo video part?
It's not included. Only the still HEIC image is converted to JPG; the associated video is stored separately by iOS and isn't part of the HEIC file this tool reads.
Why does converting a batch take longer than other tools on this site?
HEIC decoding runs through a WebAssembly build of libheif rather than a browser's built-in image decoder, which is more CPU-intensive โ expect noticeably longer processing time per photo than converting an already-common format like PNG or JPG.
